Now Hiring Tampa Organizer
Florida Consumer Action Network is now accepting applications for a full time community organizer to work in our Tampa office. FCAN is a statewide organization founded in 1984 and affiliated with USAction and Consumer Federation of America. . Currently, FCAN is working on federal and state issues including healthcare reform with HCAN, Jobs for America Now, other federal and state budget priorities, environmental protection, insurance and utility regulation.
The organizer will be responsible for work on FCAN and USAction federal program issues. Job responsibilities include working with staff to develop state campaign plans; planning, coordinating and executing strategic events, actions and activities with state partners, including oversight of turnout, recruitment, media work, and troubleshooting to ensure success on events and projects. Basic job responsibilities include media work, public education and activation, coalition building, staffing conference calls, researching issues, writing program materials, briefing staff, giving presentations and basic administrative work.
A commitment to progressive issues and dedication to social change work will weigh heavily in favor of the applicant. This campaign and position is currently funded for six months, with a potential of extension.
Qualifications and Experience
- - Excellent communication and writing skills
- - Self starter with a proven ability to work without direct supervision
- - Ability to work nights and weekends as required
- - Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and insurance
- - Ability to prioritize multiple projects within the campaign
- - Ability to produce consistent, quality work in a fast-paced environment
- - Experience working or volunteering on political issue campaigns
- - Demonstrated ability to manage organizing programs, develop
and implement plans - - Broad SW Florida progressive network preferred
- - Proven ability to work will with a diverse group of people
- - Bi-lingual preferred (English and Spanish)
- - Midwest Academy training preferred
- - Fundraising experience preferred
