Florida Clean Power Coalition fights for Clean Air

FCAN joined with allies to fight the Bush administration's "Clear Skies" Act. This bill will do anything but clear the skies. A good air pollution bill would  regulate four pollutants from power plants including:

  • Carbon Dioxide - a leading cause of global climate change
  • Sulfur Dioxide and Nitrogen Oxides - air pollutants that form soot and smog that cause premature deaths and numerous asthma attacks each year in Florida and affecting children, the elderly and those with respiratory illnesses most severely.
  • Mercury - a potent fetal neurotoxin that contaminates Florida's rivers and lakes.

Florida's congressional delegation needs to join this bi-partisan effort to protect public health and the environment.  Clear Skies, wouldn't lead to clear skies at all. Just the opposite, it would increase air pollution.  As of now, Clear Skies has failed to pass out of committee. Write Sen.Bill Nelson and thank him for protecting Florida's clean air.
