Problem
Health Care That is Unaffordable and Unavailable for Families,
Businesses, and Government
Americans know it’s getting tougher to get quality, affordable health care no matter how hard we work. Since 2001, premiums for family coverage have increased 78%, while wages have gone up 19% and inflation 17%.
- The government already spends over $40 billion a year on health care for the uninsured
- In Florida, more than 6 people die every day because of lack of health insurance.
- 14,000 people are losing their health insurance coverage every day.
- The six largest investor-owned health insurance companies recorded huge profit gains in the third quarter of 2010 by spending a smaller share of premiums on medical care, purging unprofitable members and burdening consumers with higher cost-sharing limits. WellPoint Inc., UnitedHealth Group Inc., Aetna Inc., Humana Inc., Cigna Corp. and Coventry Health Care Inc. made combined profits of $3.4 billion in the three months ending Sept. 30, a 22% increase over the third quarter of 2009 (Table 1 – SEE PDF OF RELEASE), according to an analysis of company filings by Health Care for America Now.

Why Private Health
Insurance Alone Doesn’t
Meet Our Needs
- They only want to cover the healthy and divide us into small groups, driving up costs.
- They do not want to cover costly services.
- They cover different services under varying conditions and pay different amounts.
- They can change many terms of coverage
whenever they please.
Solution
Guaranteed, Quality Affordable Health Care for all Americans!
- Health coverage that is affordable for
every person, family, and business.
Coverage with premiums and out-of-pocket costs based on your ability to pay. - Government acts as a watchdog, setting and enforcing rules so private insurance companies can’t deny coverage or raise rates based on health history, age, or gender.
Choice of Private or Public Health Insurance Plan
- Keep your current private insurance plan or join a new public health insurance plan.
- The choice of a new public health insurance plan is a guaranteed backup that will always be there to ensure quality, affordable health care coverage no matter what.
Equal Access to Quality Care
- Create equity in health care access, treatment, research, and resources to people and communities of color and strengthen health services in low-income communities.
It is up to you to make sure
we keep the Affordable Care Act.
