An Evening With Juan Cole
National Security: Iraq, Iran & the Middle East
Juan Cole is considered America’s leading authority on the Middle East and is professor of modern Middle Eastern and South Asian History at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He will discuss our own nation’s security with regards to our past and present relationships with the Middle East. Immediately following the speech, the audience will have the opportunity to participate in a question and answer session with Dr. Cole.
Dr. Cole’s published works include Napoleon’s Egypt: Invading the Middle East (MacMillan, 2007) and The Ayatollahs and Democracy in Contemporary Iraq (A.U. Press, 2006). He has appeared on the News Hour with Jim Lehrer and ABC Evening News. Dr. Cole appeared before the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations in 2004 to advise the steps needed to ensure a stable and democratic Iraq. Dr. Cole’s blog, Informed Comment, has won awards and is ranked in the top 100 visited blogs.
